Working for Myself: My Journey from Kelley School of Business Graduate to Indiana Entrepreneur

For years, I’ve proudly said, “I work for myself.” At first glance, it sounds simple — almost casual. But those three words carry a depth I never imagined when I began my journey as an entrepreneur in Indiana.
It’s never felt like “work” in the traditional sense. I genuinely love what I do, and building my own digital marketing agency from the ground up has been both rewarding and challenging. My passion for helping small businesses grow began two years ago when I stepped into the digital marketing space. That passion evolved into AlignZ Marketing, where I now help business owners amplify their brand, attract customers, and grow online.
This past May, I graduated from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, earning degrees in Sales, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship & Corporate Innovation. My time at Kelley was transformational. The professors, coursework, and networking opportunities gave me the skills, knowledge, and confidence to launch AlignZ Marketing.
But here’s the side of entrepreneurship that’s rarely discussed: it’s not all glamorous. Some weeks, the paycheck you expect doesn’t come. You face uncertainty, wondering how you’ll cover payroll or pay bills. That financial unpredictability has been one of my biggest challenges in running a business.
Over time, I’ve learned to use that pressure as motivation. When I feel stressed, I don’t freeze, but I rather work harder. I turn the uncertainty into fuel that pushes me to find new clients, refine my services, and keep growing AlignZ Marketing.
Living this way isn’t easy, but it’s worth it. I believe the long hours, calculated risks, and moments of doubt will pay off. Because at the end of the day, my dream is simple and yet more meaningful than it seems: working for myself, helping businesses succeed, and building something that will last.
